Falling Satellite

February 1, 2008 / by steeve

For all you happy paranoics out there, here's something else to worry about: U S 193.  That's the official military name for the spy satellite that was launched in December 2006 and immediately lost power and went out of control.  Now it's falling out of orbit and is supposed to hit somewhere in North America, says Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, head of U.S. Northern Command.  He says that, due to the size of the satellite, some of its pieces will not burn up as the thing re-enters earth's atmosphere and will impact the ground.

Due to FEMA's well-recognized incompetence, I respectfully suggest that everyone check immediately with your insurance carrier to determine whether your home is covered for falling spy satellites.

{My attempt to imbed a photo of a spy satellite into this post met with failure.  Apparently that's one "bug" the new blogster has yet to spritz.}

    I guess I'm safe, here in Mindanao!  (Come to think of it, 'safe' is a relative term.)

    Remember when Skylab 'landed' in Australia (was it)? I wonder if this is one of the satellites Mr. Troutbend was involved in the lauching of when he worked in aerospace. If it falls on him and kills him, I'll know it is some kind of cosmic karma.
